Fixing Roof

Roof Repairs

In many cases, you may be able to extend the life of your roof simply by keeping on top of minor repairs. This is a great way to avoid having to replace your roof for a few more years. All you have to do is pay attention to small problems before they grow. You can also have us come inspect your roof from time to time to see if it’s in need of any repairs.

In New York, homes are subject to all kinds of weather from blistering hot temperatures in the summer to snow and ice in the winter. All of these extremes can take their toll on roofs. To help you know what to look for, we’ve put together a list of common roof repairs that we see in the area. If you notice any of these problems, give Z. Abedin Construction a call. 718-633-9605

Broken or Missing Shingles and Tiles

Wind and storms can damage roof shingles and tiles, leaving your roof vulnerable and unprotected. In many cases, you’ll notice a few missing or damaged roof shingles or tiles after a storm. When you replace these right away, you can avoid long-term damage.

Buckled Shingles

When a roof has trouble drying out, the shingles can start to expand and buckle. If this is happening in just a few spots on the roof, it may be possible to repair just those areas instead of having to replace the whole thing.

Leaking Valleys

Your roof’s valleys are probably made of some type of metal, usually lead or tin, but sometimes from plastic. These valleys channel the water to your gutters while it’s raining, but sometimes they wear out and fail to do their job. By repairing your leaking valleys, you can keep your sub-roof dry and protect your shingles from buckling.

Slipped Flashing

A gust of wind can cause a piece of your flashing to slip out of place, and if it’s not re-secured or replaced, your roof will be left vulnerable. A simple inspection of your roof will help to determine if there are any problems with your flashing, and this repair is usually simple and straightforward

Ponding Water

Most often a problem with flat roofs, ponding water can block drains and create voids in the roof’s membrane. It’s important to find the source of the ponding water. Sometimes the HVAC system is the culprit. Whatever the reason, repairing this problem quickly will help you to avoid larger problems in the future.
